Suchhilfe
The general contents of the Albertina’s databases are only available in German, so that you will have to use German search terms if you do not use artists’ names, inventory numbers, book titles, etc. In due course, the most important works figuring in the Graphic Art Collection will also appear with their titles in English.
Filter Search:
By using the filters on the left side of the website, you can search for objects (works of art, books, etc.) even without having entered a search term. For example, when choosing “All Collections” and then “Graphic Art Collection”, this will immediately influence the data sets shown, as well as subsequent filters: only those data sets and filters will appear that refer to the Graphic Art Collection. Now you will be able to narrow down your search further, until you have received the desired search result.
The filters previously applied will also be adopted when you switch from Simple to Advanced Search.
Search Term:
If you do not know the exact term or name, use the “*” sign. It serves as a placeholder for individual characters or for one or several words in front of, after, or between search terms.
For instance, when you look for Dürer’s “Feldhase” and do not know the exact title of the work, simply enter “*hase” in the title search. In this way you will be able to find “Feldhase”.
Simple Search (“Search” button):
Use this search in order to obtain an overview of the holdings available in all of the databases. When you enter a term in the vacant search box, this term will be searched in all of the fields in all of the databases (except for catalogue texts). By limiting your search to individual databases through the filters on the left side of the website, you will be able to direct your search beforehand.
It is possible for you to further refine your search:
- by using the filter on the left side of the website.
- by switching to “Advanced Search”. Your original query and hits will be adopted.
Advanced Search (“Advanced Search” button):
Direct access: At the top of the search window appears a vacant box. Entering your term into this box will result in a Simple Search: the term entered will be searched in all of the fields in all of the databases.
You have three options:
- Conduct your search without further refining it.
- Combine your first entry with the search criteria offered below.
- You can also leave the box at the top empty and work immediately with the search criteria offered below.
Adopting your “Simple Search”: If you switch from “Simple Search” to “Advanced Search”, the term you have entered in “Simple Search” will automatically be adopted in “Advanced Search”. You can either keep it or remove it by entering a new search term or by deleting the old search term.
Clearing individual steps of your search:
At the top of your hit list will appear the history of the search you have conducted. By clicking on the red “X” at the end of a line, you will be able to delete the respective step of your search.
New search:
The “Home” button will take you back to the first search form.
